University of Babylon Discusses Postgraduate Diploma Studies in Echocardiography
The College of Medicine at the University of Babylon held discussions for thirteen distinguished research projects submitted by students of the Postgraduate Diploma in Echocardiography. The sessions took place over three days in the college halls.
The discussions were attended by Prof. Dr. Muhannad Abbass Al-Shalah, Dean of the College, along with the scientific and administrative assistants, Prof. Dr. Hassan Salem Al-Jumaili (Head of the Department of Internal Medicine), Prof. Dr. Uday Jasim Al-Salhi (Postgraduate Studies Coordinator in Internal Medicine), several physicians, faculty members, and postgraduate students.
The discussion committees were chaired by Prof. Dr. Abbas Naji Al-Sharifi (President of Ibn Sina University for Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences), Prof. Dr. Ghazi Farhan Haji (Postgraduate Studies Coordinator at the University of Baghdad), Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Abdul-Azim Watout (Head of the Babylon Scientific Center for Internal Medicine / Iraqi Board), Prof. Dr. Safaa Jawad Muhyiddin (Dean of Ibn Sina College of Medicine), Prof. Dr. Ali Saleh Bayie (College of Medicine – Hammurabi), Prof. Dr. Hassan Salem Al-Jumaili, Prof. Dr. Uday Jasim Al-Salhi, Prof. Dr. Ali Jaber Al-Maamouri, and Prof. Dr. Muhannad Khudair Shukr.
The students’ research addressed a range of modern and advanced techniques in echocardiography, including specialized topics in four-dimensional echocardiography and congenital heart defects. Several studies focused on Speckle Tracking Echocardiography, emphasizing its significant role in the early detection of myocardial functional disorders.
Other studies included innovative approaches to diagnosing ischemic heart disease and discussed a variety of clinically significant case studies relevant to follow-up and diagnosis, with a focus on the relationship between cardiovascular diseases and several chronic conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, hypertension, and chronic bronchitis.
The presented studies were characterized by scientific rigor, contributing valuable academic research that serves as a new reference for identifying complex clinical cases and guiding appropriate treatment strategies.
At the conclusion of the event, Prof. Dr. Muhannad Abbass Al-Shalah, Dean of the College, presented Certificates of Appreciation to Prof. Dr. Abbas Naji Al-Sharifi, Prof. Dr. Ghazi Farhan Haji, Dr. Fadel Al-Sultani (Director of Marjan Hospital), Prof. Dr. Safaa Jawad Muhyiddin, Prof. Dr. Ali Saleh Bayie, Asst. Prof. Dr. Asaad Hassan Naaman, Consultant Dr. Wissam Saeed Taj Al-Din, and Consultant Dr. Dhafer Mohammed Sultan for their active participation in the examination committees.
