College of Medicine Holds Its Annual Celebration Marking the Birth of Imam Al-Mahdi (May God hasten his reappearance)
On the anniversary of the birth of the Savior of humanity and descendant of Prophethood, Imam Al-Mahdi Al-Muntazar (may God hasten his noble reappearance), and under the slogan “And say, ‘Do [as you will], for Allah will see your deeds, and [so will] His Messenger and the believers”, the College of Medicine at the University of Babylon held a grand celebration in commemoration of this blessed occasion. The event was held under the patronage of the President of the University of Babylon, Prof. Dr. Amin Ajeel Al-Yasiri, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Mohend Abbass Al-Shalah, and the Scientific Assistant Dean, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ashraf Mohammed Ali Hussein. The Department of Biochemistry, together with a distinguished group of female medical students and memorizers of the Holy Qur’an, organized the celebration.
The ceremony witnessed distinguished attendance led by the University President, Prof. Dr. Amin Ajeel Al-Yasiri, along with the Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mansour Al-Khafaji, and the Vice President for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Dr. Mithaq Talib Al-Jubouri. Also present were the Dean of the College of Medicine–Hammurabi, Prof. Dr. Hadi Al-Moussawi, and the Director of Student Dormitories, Prof. Dr. Yahya Al-Tammimi, in addition to broad participation from heads of departments, faculty members, staff, and students.
The College also hosted a number of religious figures, foremost among them His Eminence Sheikh Habib Al-Kazimi (may he be granted continued success), as well as a delegation from the House of the Holy Qur’an in Babylon affiliated with the Holy Shrine of Imam Al-Hussain, represented by Sheikh Hassan Al-Maamouri and Mr. Kazim Al-Hilli.
The celebration opened with recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by standing to recite Surat Al-Fatiha in mercy and tribute to the souls of Iraq’s righteous martyrs. This was followed by a speech on behalf of the College administration delivered by the Scientific Assistant Dean, Dr. Ashraf Mohammed Ali Hussein, in which he welcomed the honored guests and congratulated the Islamic nation and the revered religious authorities on this auspicious birth. He emphasized the importance of drawing inspiration from the lofty values of Imam Al-Hujjah (peace be upon him), adopting them as a guiding light and goal in sincerity at work and diligence in study.
Thereafter, Sheikh Hassan Al-Maamouri took the stage and delivered a speech on this fragrant occasion, highlighting the spiritual and educational dimensions of awaiting relief (Al-Faraj), and praising the cooperation between academic institutions and the House of the Holy Qur’an at the Holy Hussaini Shrine. Then His Eminence Sheikh Habib Al-Kazimi delivered a valuable religious and awareness lecture, focusing on the human connection with the Imam of one’s time and the sense of divine oversight in work and study, stressing the role of youth in building a society that awaits the radiant reappearance.
The festival included various segments reflecting the joy of the occasion, as well as honoring memorizers of the Holy Qur’an. Students from the College of Medicine and from the Colleges of Pharmacy, Dentistry, and Nursing who have memorized the Qur’an were honored in recognition of their efforts in combining academic excellence with Qur’anic distinction.
