College of Medicine, University of Babylon Holds a Faculty Council Meeting
The Faculty Council was convened under the chairmanship of Professor Dr. Mohend Abbass Al-Shalah, Dean of the College of Medicine, with the attendance of the scientific and administrative assistants, all department heads, and Professor Dr. Basim Abdul-Aali Abdul, Secretary of the Council.
At the outset, the Dean welcomed the council members, wishing them success in all their assigned duties, while emphasizing the importance of completing these tasks in the best possible manner to achieve scientific and academic progress for the college in particular and the university in general.
The Dean then extended congratulations to the new members of the council:
• Professor Dr. Samir Suwadi Hamoud, on assuming the position of Administrative Assistant Dean.
• Professor Dr. Mudher Hassan Noor, on assuming the position of Head of the Pediatrics Department.
• Professor Dr. Farah Nabeel Abbass, on assuming the position of Head of the Department of Physiology.
• Professor Dr. Qais Ismail Kazem, on assuming the position of Head of the Department of Family and Community Medicine.
He praised their distinguished academic and scientific reputation, expressing confidence that they would make significant contributions to the council and the college, and would live up to the responsibilities entrusted to them.
The council then hosted Professor Dr. Kazem Jawad Al-Hamadani on the occasion of the conclusion of his tenure as Administrative Assistant Dean. He was presented with a letter of appreciation in the name of the council, in addition to being honored with the Shield of Excellence and Creativity, in recognition of his great and distinguished efforts, his honorable role, and the accumulated expertise he provided throughout the years of his service.
The council subsequently discussed a number of topics related to students and the educational process, most notably the ministerial decision to add five marks to address students’ cases in the second round examinations across all academic systems for the academic year 2024–2025, including the mechanisms of its implementation. It also stressed the need to complete all requirements related to students within the work of the examination committee.
Furthermore, the council emphasized the ministry’s directives regarding the digital transformation, particularly the Student Information System (SIS) and Moodle, and highlighted the necessity for all faculty members to be fully prepared for this transition in order to enhance the delivery of curricula and ensure direct interaction between faculty and students. Faculty members were also urged to take an active role in guiding and educating students in this regard.
