Department of Physiology Conducts Practical Physiology Examination
The Department of Physiology at the College of Medicine, University of Babylon, conducted the practical examination in Medical Physiology for second-year students using the OSPE (Objective Structured Practical Examination) format, incorporating oral and skill-based assessments.
The head of the department, Professor Dr. Sameer Sawadi, stated that this type of examination represents an important and innovative step in Iraqi medical colleges, especially in the early years of study, as it aims to link basic sciences with clinical knowledge.
During the exam, emphasis was placed on the practical and skill-based aspects that students acquired throughout the academic year, moving away from the traditional paper-based examination system. The oral and skill-based exam enhances students’ practical abilities by allowing them to apply the skills they have learned, including communication skills and professional attitude when interacting with peers and patients.
The examination included several stations covering essential skills that every medical student should master, such as the examination of sensory and motor nerves, cranial nerve examination, vision testing, color blindness testing, visual field assessment, cerebellar function tests, and other clinical scenarios.
