University of Babylon Launches a Major Awareness Campaign Urging Students to Update Their Voter Cards
Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, and with the supervision and follow-up of Prof. Dr. Ameen Ajeel Yasser Al-Yasiri, President of the University of Babylon, and Prof. Dr. Mithaq Talib Abdul Jabbar, Vice President for Administrative Affairs,
the Department of Student Activities at the University of Babylon has launched a major cultural awareness campaign aimed at promoting electoral awareness among students and encouraging them to update their voter registration data.
This campaign comes within the university’s pioneering role in serving the community and contributing actively to consolidating democratic principles and building state institutions on transparent and fair foundations.
Launched in alignment with national directives and in affirmation of the importance of informed participation in elections as a fundamental pillar of a democratic system, the campaign targets university students across all colleges and departments. Activities include:
• Educational seminars presented by specialists in electoral and legal affairs to explain the significance and procedures of voter data updating.
• Interactive workshops to train students on the use of the Independent High Electoral Commission’s electronic systems.
• Field advertising campaigns through the distribution of brochures, posters, and the use of electronic display screens across the campus.
• Digital outreach via university social media platforms to deliver impactful awareness messages in modern and engaging formats.
Prof. Dr. Ameen Al-Yasiri, President of the University, affirmed in a special statement that this initiative stems from the university’s national responsibility to foster a culture of sound electoral participation and to encourage youth to play their real role in shaping the country’s future through responsible and conscious engagement.
In turn, Prof. Dr. Mithaq Talib Abdul Jabbar emphasized that the campaign will be ongoing and subject to evaluation to ensure the achievement of its intended goals. He confirmed the university’s full support for all national initiatives that contribute to spreading community awareness and strengthening citizenship values.
This campaign reflects the University of Babylon’s deep belief that youth are the foundation of the future and that their participation in the electoral process begins with an awareness of their pivotal role in societal transformation—a goal the university seeks to embed through its educational programs and continuous social initiatives.
In the same context, the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Muhannad Abbas Al-Shallal, stressed the importance of encouraging students to update their voter cards and participate in the electoral process, highlighting their critical role as an active and influential segment of society in driving change and practicing their democratic rights
