Scientific Symposium at the College of Medicine, University of Babylon on Strategies to Promote Professional Attitude
As part of the continuing education activities of the Department of Microbiology at the College of Medicine, University of Babylon, a scientific symposium was held titled:
“What Are the Strategies to Achieve Professional Attitude within Basic Medical Science Curricula? The Medical Microbiology Curriculum as a Model.”
The symposium was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Muhannad Abbas Al-Shallah, the scientific and administrative assistants, the Director of Graduate Studies Professor Dr. Lamees Abdul Razzaq, as well as several department heads, faculty members, and staff.
The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Ilham Abbas Banyan Al-Saadi, and the keynote lecture was delivered by Professor Dr. Mohammed Abdul Kazim Al-Saadi, who reviewed the fundamental concepts of the intended educational outcomes (IEOs) of the medical college, focusing on the triad of Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude (KSA).
The symposium also addressed key methods through which the “Attitude” component can be effectively incorporated into the medical microbiology and parasitology curricula.
An in-depth discussion followed, during which the Dean affirmed his support for curriculum development and modernization, emphasizing the importance of making curricula more interactive and encouraging active student participation during lectures. He also stressed the need to align teaching with the intended educational outcomes for each academic department.
The symposium concluded with several recommendations, notably the inclusion of topics that promote the principles of professional attitude and medical ethics for medical graduates, and the importance of involving academic departments in the planning of continuing education activities that support medical education and programmatic academic accreditation.
