Babylon Medical Students Take Final Practical Exam in Obstetrics and Gynecology
The final clinical exam in obstetrics and gynecology for sixth-year medical students at the College of Medicine, University of Babylon, was held at the Maternity and Children’s Teaching Hospital.
Professor Dr. Asmaa Kadhim Kadhim, Head of the Department, stated that full preparations were made to receive the students, and the exam was conducted smoothly with the participation of faculty members from the department, doctors from the Babylon Health Directorate, faculty from the College of Medicine at the University of Karbala, and physicians from Babylon Maternity and Children’s Hospital and Imam Al-Sadiq (A.S.) Hospital.
She praised the efforts of the hospital director, Dr. Muhannad Al-Suwaidi, for facilitating all procedures and assisting in providing hospital wards and clinical cases necessary for the students’ examination.
She explained that the practical obstetrics and gynecology exam consisted of three stages:
• Stage one included a presentation of slides covering various topics related to the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of obstetric and gynecological conditions.
• Stage two was the OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) stations that assessed students’ clinical skills.
• The final stage was the long case, during which the student was required to take a detailed medical history, present the case to the examiner, perform a clinical examination, and discuss the patient’s condition, complications, diagnostic approach, required investigations, and treatment options
