Faculty Member from the College of Medicine, University of Babylon, Participates in a Master’s Thesis Defense at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa

Professor Alaa Hani Al-Charrakh, a faculty member from the Department of Microbiology at the College of Medicine, University of Babylon, participated as a member of the examination committee for the master’s thesis of student Nerisa Chetty at the aforementioned university. The thesis focused on “Assessment of Domestic and Wild Birds as Potential Carriers of Antibiotic-Resistant Escherichia coli and Enterococci.”

The research project was supervised by Professor Stefan Schmidt, Professor of Applied and Environmental Microbiology (H-index 28), who is a permanent member of several international microbiological societies, including the American Society for Microbiology and the Royal Society for Microbiology in South Africa, among others. He has made significant contributions across various areas of microbiological life, ranging from bacteriophages, prokaryotic bacteria, and archaea to eukaryotic fungi, algae, and protozoan parasites.

It is worth mentioning that this is the third time Professor Alaa Hani Al-Charrakh has participated in evaluating academic theses at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa in the field of microbiology, during the years 2019, 2022, and 2024.

Professor Alaa Hani Al-Charrakh received a letter of appreciation from the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Engineering and Science at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in recognition of his active participation in the student’s thesis defense.
