Workshop at the University of Babylon College of Medicine on Artificial Intelligence
As part of its continuing medical education activities, the Medical Education Unit at the University of Babylon College of Medicine, under the supervision of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Muhannad Abbasss Al-Shalah, held a workshop on “The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Medical Education.” The session was chaired by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Associate Professor Dr. Ashraf Mohammed Ali Hussein, and attended by several heads of academic departments, scientific and examination committees in the departments, members of the Exam Quality Assurance Committee, and faculty members.
The workshop discussed the role of artificial intelligence and the use of the Gemini platform in medical education, assisting in the creation of interactive theoretical lectures for students using Canva, based on authoritative scientific books and reputable scientific websites according to the latest updates.
During the workshop, Professor Dr. Suhaila Fadhil Al-Sheikh delivered a lecture on the importance of prompt engineering in a professional manner when interacting with AI to achieve the best results. She explained how to access the platform using the university account, highlighting its importance as it provides access to an upgraded version of Gemini, enabling subscribers to enjoy valuable features not available in the standard version.
She also demonstrated how to upload reference book documents to the platform to use them in creating lectures. Then, Gemini can be instructed to generate an interactive lecture composed of a specific number of slides, including slides with embedded questions to encourage student engagement and ensure maximum benefit from the educational material. Once the slides are completed, they can be exported to Google Slides for offline storage and future editing.
The lecture also highlighted other applications available on Google that can be highly useful for teaching tasks, noting that a series of workshops will be held to cover these applications more comprehensively.
The lecture emphasized the importance of student subscription to the platform, as the upgraded features allow deep learning and the creation of audio and video summaries of their lectures, completely free of charge. It was noted that the offer is valid for a limited period, and free student subscriptions will close on December 9.
