College of Medicine, University of Babylon Holds a Scientific Seminar on Diabetes Mellitus and Its Major Complications Under the patronage of the Deanship of the College of Medicine, and within the activities of Continuing Medical Education and in pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals, the Department of Internal Medicine and Forensic Medicine at the College of Medicine, University of Babylon, in cooperation with the Babylon Health Directorate, organized a scientific seminar on diabetes mellitus and its major complications. The seminar included an opening address by Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Raji Khairallah Al-Janabi, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine and Forensic Medicine, in which he highlighted the importance of diabetes mellitus and the necessity of early diagnosis to prevent serious complications. The scientific lectures were delivered by Dr. Amjad Hikmat Al-Hasnawi, Consultant Internist and an accredited trainer by the Babylon Health Directorate for non-communicable diseases. His lecture addressed the epidemiological and statistical aspects of diabetes mellitus and the significant global rise in prevalence across different age groups. Another lecture was presented by Lecturer Dr. Zainab Haider Al-Kufaishi, Specialist in Histopathology, who discussed the complications of diabetes mellitus, with particular emphasis on fatty liver disease, including its stages, pathogenesis, and complications. The seminar was attended by the Scientific and Administrative Vice Deans of the College, a number of department heads and faculty members, as well as college staff. The seminar concluded with several recommendations, most notably the importance of adherence to a healthy diet, regular daily exercise, periodic screening for early diagnosis, and the need for early initiation of treatment and strict compliance in order to avoid serious complications.
