Distinguished Participation of Babylon Medical College at the Ministry of Higher Education
A formal delegation from the College of Medicine at the University of Babylon participated, upon invitation, in a historic and unique scientific event in the history of higher education in Iraq. This grand celebration was organized by the Accreditation Council for Iraqi Medical Colleges on the occasion of the first anniversary of its international recognition by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).
The ceremony took place at the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, on Thursday, February 20, 2025, under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi. The event was attended by Deputy Minister Prof. Dr. Adnan Al-Jumaili, the Head of the Supervision and Scientific supervision Authority, Prof. Dr. Salah Al-Fatlawi, senior officials of the ministry, and distinguished guests, including WFME President Professor Ricardo Le?n B?rquez, the President of Ras Al Khaimah University and WFME representative in the Middle East, Prof. Dr. Ismail Matalkah, the President of the University of Baghdad, the deans of medical colleges across Iraq, and Dr. Hassanain Shubar, President of the Iraqi Medical Association.
During the event, Prof. Dr. Muhannad Abbas Al-Shallah, Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Babylon, was honored for achieving international accreditation for Babylon Medical College and for his role as the head of the accreditation team for the College of Medicine at the University of Al-Qadisiyah. Prof. Dr. Adel Hassan Al-Hindawi was also recognized for his membership in the Accreditation Council, and Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abdul Kazem was honored for leading the national accreditation teams for the medical colleges of Duhok, Karbala, and Al-Nahrain Universities.
The celebration also included a scientific session chaired by Prof. Dr. Adel Al-Hindawi, during which Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abdul Kazem delivered a discussion lecture on feedback from the field visit of the accreditation evaluation team.
The event was also attended by Assistant Prof. Dr. Sawsan Jassim Obeid, Head of the Quality Assurance Department at the University of Babylon, along with Zainab Ali Zgair, a sixth-year medical student who serves as the student representative of Iraq in the Accreditation Council.
