Department of Biochemistry at the College of Medicine, University of Babylon Organizes a Specialized Course on Advanced Clinical Chemistry Practices and Laboratory Quality
Within the framework of the Continuing Medical Education activities, and under the theme of “Sustainable Development,” the Department of Biochemistry at the College of Medicine, University of Babylon organized a specialized course entitled:
“Advanced Practice in Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Quality”
The course aimed to enhance the efficiency of clinical laboratory performance and develop the scientific skills of participants.
The course activities were conducted over two days and addressed key topics in laboratory investigations and quality control, as follows:
Day One: Laboratory Performance Quality
The first day focused on standards of accuracy in laboratory work.
Assistant Professor Zeina Abbas and Assistant Professor Hiba Rasheed delivered a detailed lecture on “Mechanisms for Detecting Laboratory Errors,” followed by a scientific lecture on “Internal Quality Control (IQC)” presented by Professor Thanaa Mohammed, highlighting the importance of periodic monitoring to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results.
Day Two: Field Challenges and Analytical Evaluation
The second day was dedicated to discussing field-related challenges and analytical evaluation methods.
Lecturer Murtadha Adel presented a lecture on “Challenges of Home Blood Sampling,” while Lecturer Zainab Mohsen reviewed “Calibration Curves and Their Standards.” The course concluded with a lecture on “Diagnostic Accuracy” delivered by Lecturer Samar Hassan.
It is worth noting that the course targeted faculty members of the College and postgraduate students, reflecting the College’s commitment to keeping pace with scientific and technological advances in clinical laboratories, enhancing academic rigor, and improving the quality of diagnostic services.
