College of Medicine at the University of Babylon Holds Seminar on Combating Extremist Ideology
Under the patronage of the President of the University of Babylon, Professor Dr. Ameen Ajeel Al-Yasiri, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Professor Dr. Muhannad Abbas Al-Shalah, and in response to the regional changes and the sectarian and extremist wars surrounding Iraq, and in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), the Educational and Psychological Counseling Unit, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Unit, organized an awareness seminar entitled “Combating Extremist Ideology Leading to Terrorism, Drug Trafficking, and Cyber Blackmail.”
The seminar featured a lecture by Assistant Lecturer Maryam Amer Hafthi, in which she highlighted the types of terrorism and the negative consequences of adopting extremist ideologies, including the threat they pose to social norms and communal peace. She also addressed the moral and religious imperatives to combat all forms of terrorism, including sectarian terrorism, drug-related terrorism, and cyber terrorism.
Attendees were encouraged to support prevention mechanisms and combat the early signs of extremism and terrorism, noting that this is a shared responsibility among society and both local and central government institutions.
The seminar also urged reporting anyone who incites or supports sectarianism, violence, or drug trafficking, and emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant against cyber blackmail. It provided guidance on how to cooperate with the security apparatus and shared the contact numbers of relevant bodies such as the Anti-Crime Directorate and the National Security Agency.
