cientific Seminar on Hemorrhagic Fever Virus at the College of Medicine, University of Babylon
As part of the activities of the Continuing Medical Education Unit at the College of Medicine, University of Babylon, the Department of Microbiology organized a scientific seminar titled “Hemorrhagic Fever Virus: Between Prevention and Spread.”
The seminar was presented by Assistant Lecturer Mohammed Mohsen Mohammed and Assistant Lecturer Samara Abdulhamid Al-Salhi, and was attended by the Director of the Continuing Medical Education Unit, Professor Dr. Ilham Abbas Banyan Al-Saadi, along with a number of faculty members and staff from the college.
The seminar covered several key points, including an introduction to hemorrhagic fever, modes of human transmission, and a review of the geographic distribution of reported cases across various provinces of Iraq.
Attention was given to the factors contributing to the rise in infection rates over recent years, based on reliable scientific data and field analyses.
The seminar also focused on prevention strategies, which included:
• Health education and awareness campaigns aimed at disseminating knowledge about the virus and its transmission methods to all segments of society.
• Monitoring of carrier animals, emphasizing the surveillance and examination of animals that serve as reservoirs for the virus, particularly sheep and goats, to enable early control of infection hotspots.
• Improving agricultural practices by encouraging farmers to adopt healthier and more carefully planned agricultural methods to reduce the spread of the disease in rural environments.
During the seminar, the speakers also discussed the potential health and economic impacts of the disease, stressing the importance of strengthening preventive efforts to curb its spread.
In conclusion, participants emphasized that adherence to preventive measures and the promotion of community awareness are fundamental pillars for protecting public health and safeguarding the well-being of individuals and society.
