The Third Iraqi Scientific Conference on Cardiac Echocardiography
The College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad, in collaboration with the College of Medicine at the University of Babylon, hosted the Third Iraqi Conference on Cardiac Echocardiography 2025, chaired by Prof. Dr. Mohend Abbass Al-Shalah (Dean, College of Medicine, University of Babylon) and Prof. Dr. Ameen Abdul Hassan Maan Al-Alwani (Dean, College of Medicine, University of Baghdad), under the theme:
“Cardiac Echocardiography: The Current Status and the Era of Artificial Intelligence.”
The event was held in Baghdad and served as a national platform for the echocardiography specialty in Iraq, featuring a series of lectures and workshops highlighting the latest advancements and innovations in echocardiographic imaging.
The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Raghad Al-Hashemi, Administrative Assistant to the President of the University of Baghdad, as well as a distinguished delegation from the University of Babylon, including Prof. Dr. Kazem Jawad Al-Hamdani (Administrative Assistant Dean), Prof. Dr. Hassan Salem Abdul-Sada Al-Jumaili (Head of the Department of Internal Medicine), and Prof. Dr. Uday Jasim Al-Salihi (Postgraduate Studies Coordinator), along with a large number of cardiology specialists, echocardiography experts, and academic faculty members.
In his opening address, Conference Chair Prof. Dr. Mohend Abbass Al-Shalah expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the University of Baghdad College of Medicine for their warm hospitality and excellent organization. He emphasized that this scientific collaboration between the two colleges represents a model of academic partnership that advances knowledge and serves society. He also noted that the College of Medicine at the University of Babylon has laid the foundation for echocardiography education in Babylon through exceptional efforts, by setting strategic academic plans and selecting an elite group of specialists and faculty members to train diploma students in echocardiography.
The conference featured a series of specialized sessions and workshops addressing the latest developments in echocardiography and the role of artificial intelligence in clinical practice.
• The first session focused on advanced applications of echocardiographic imaging in clinical settings.
• The second session discussed echocardiographic strategies for “gray zone” cases and managing complex scenarios.
• The third session highlighted the integration of artificial intelligence and structural heart interventions using echocardiography-guided approaches.
These sessions were enriched by valuable contributions from participating researchers and faculty members, adding depth to the scientific discussions and turning the event into a genuine platform for exchanging expertise and new ideas that support the advancement of this vital specialty in Iraq.
The workshops were led by Prof. Dr. Uday Jasim Al-Salihi, Asst. Prof. Dr. Zainab Falah Hassan, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahlam Kazem Aboud, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hasanein Mohammed Saeed, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Shukri Faez Al-Saad.
