College of Medicine, University of Babylon Wins Two Awards in the Ministry of Higher Education Reading Competition
The College of Medicine at the University of Babylon secured two winning positions in the second edition of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s National Reading Competition, out of a total of 100 winners across Iraq. The awards were achieved by fifth-year students Mohammed Raheem Hussein and Fatima Hamza Nasser.
The award ceremony, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, was attended by the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Ameen Ajeel Al-Yasiri, the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Muhannad Abbass Al-Shalah, and the Student Activities Officer, Mr. Samir Sabri Al-Najjar.
This pioneering cultural initiative, launched by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, aims to stimulate cultural awareness, empower students to engage with non-traditional reading, and provide a serious environment for employing analytical and comprehension tools that enrich the cultural and intellectual landscape within universities. It also seeks to create the conditions necessary for revisiting and analyzing civilizational texts, thereby reducing passive consumption and strengthening the capacity to face contemporary challenges.
In his speech during the ceremony, the Minister emphasized that the award project—adopted by the Ministry for the second consecutive year—has opened a wide avenue for reflection and reinforcement of general cultural frameworks. He noted that university students actively participated and contributed to understanding the scientific and cultural significance of the competition, demonstrating a mature cultural responsibility that reflects the identity of society across its historical and contemporary dimensions.
For his part, the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Muhannad Abbass Al-Shalah, directed that the winning students be honored with a Letter of Appreciation in recognition of their achievement and for securing distinguished positions in the competition.
