Students of the College of Medicine, University of Babylon Publish a Scientific Research Paper in a Prestigious International Journal Indexed in Scopus
In a new scientific achievement reflecting the competence of our students in the field of academic research, a group of sixth-year students from the College of Medicine, University of Babylon, have successfully published a specialized scientific paper in Discover Education, a journal affiliated with the international publisher Springer Nature.
The research team included the following students:
• Hammam Latif Hamoud
• Hassan Riyadh Hadi
• Abbas Fadhil Abdul-Hussein
The study was titled:
“Myopia as a Growing Problem Among Iraqi Medical Students, Particularly at the University of Babylon – College of Medicine.”
Discover Education is considered a reputable scientific journal classified within the third quartile (Q3) in international databases such as Scopus and Web of Science. This publication underscores the high academic quality of the adopted methodology and its scientific impact within international research circles.
The study highlighted the high prevalence of myopia among Iraqi medical students, concluding that:
• The use of electronic devices is the primary risk factor contributing to this increase.
• A positive family history plays a significant role.
• There is a clear recommendation for further studies to develop effective preventive strategies and to better understand the long-term trends of this phenomenon among young people.
In this regard, the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Mohend Abbass Al-Shalah, praised this achievement, commending the students’ efforts in enriching scientific research. His Excellency also presented letters of appreciation to the student researchers, affirming the College’s continuous support and its commitment to encouraging students to engage in international publishing, thereby enhancing the standing of the College and the University in global rankings.
