College of Medicine Holds a Scientific Seminar on the Rights of Women and Children in International Humanitarian Law
Under the patronage of the President of the University of Babylon, Prof. Dr. Amin Ajeel Al-Yasiri, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Mohend Abbass Al-Shalah, the College of Medicine organized a scientific awareness seminar entitled:
“The Rights of Women and Children in International Humanitarian Law.”
Held in cooperation with the College’s Human Rights Unit, represented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Reem Raheem Al-Saadi, the seminar aimed to enhance legal awareness and reinforce a culture of human rights within academic settings.
The seminar addressed several key themes presented by a group of specialists, including:
• Dr. Dhi Ali Sabr, Head of the Documents and Certificates Section, Directorate of Postgraduate Studies, University Presidency.
• Dr. Ghaith Ali Dhahir, Head of the Human Rights Section, University Presidency.
The discussion sessions covered:
• A review of international conventions and treaties that guarantee the protection of women and children during armed conflicts and emergency situations.
• A detailed explanation of the principles of international humanitarian law and mechanisms for protecting the most vulnerable groups.
• The role of states and academic institutions in ensuring the implementation of these rights and promoting sound legal awareness.
The seminar witnessed active engagement from faculty members and attendees, as interventions and questions enriched the discussion. Participants emphasized the importance of continuing such scientific events, which help consolidate the principles of justice and humanity and strengthen the university’s role as a leading institution serving community issues and building legal awareness that contributes to safeguarding rights and freedoms.
