The College of Medicine at the University of Babylon Holds a Scientific Seminar on Meat-Borne Diseases Transmissible to Humans
Under the supervision and patronage of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Mohend Abbass Al-Shalah, and as part of the Continuing Medical Education Unit’s ongoing activities, the Department of Microbiology organized a specialized scientific seminar entitled:
“Meat-Borne Diseases Transmissible to Humans and How to Prevent Them.”
The seminar was delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Ma’ani Sahr, who discussed the health risks associated with consuming contaminated meat and the types of parasites and bacteria that may be transmitted from animals to humans, emphasizing the importance of public health awareness when handling animal products.
The seminar concluded with a set of important preventive recommendations to ensure food safety, including:
• Ensuring meat is cooked thoroughly at sufficiently high temperatures to kill disease-causing agents.
• Avoiding tasting raw meat or consuming undercooked meat.
• Freezing meat for adequate periods, as this plays an effective role in eliminating certain types of parasites.
• Washing hands thoroughly with soap and water, and disinfecting tools such as knives and cutting boards immediately after contact with raw meat to prevent cross-contamination.
This seminar comes within the College of Medicine’s continuous efforts to raise health awareness and provide scientific guidance that serves the community and protects public health.
