College of Medicine at the University of Babylon Discusses a Master’s Thesis The College of Medicine at the University of Babylon witnessed the defense of a Master’s thesis submitted by the student Sama Mohammed Abdullah, entitled: “The Relationship Between Vitamin D3 and Vitamin E Deficiency and Anti-Müllerian Hormone Levels in Women with Secondary Infertility.” Part of the defense session was attended by the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Mohend Abbass Al-Shalah, The head of the Physiology Branch and the head of the Babylon Center for the Clinical Neurophysiology Board, Prof. Dr. Farah Nabil Abbas along with a number of faculty members and postgraduate students. The study addressed the problem of secondary infertility, which represents a common challenge in fertility treatment centers. The researcher focused on evaluating the role of Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, and Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) in female fertility. The study specifically aimed to assess the levels of these indicators among women with secondary infertility and to investigate the relationship between these vitamins and various social, demographic, and clinical factors. This cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of 208 women aged between 18 and 40 years, who attended Babylon Maternity and Children Hospital and Taiba Fertility Center, during the period from September 2024 to May 2025. The results showed the following: • A 63.5% prevalence of Vitamin D3 deficiency among the participants. • A significant positive correlation between AMH levels and the levels of Vitamin D3 and Vitamin E. • Women with sufficient Vitamin D3 levels demonstrated higher ovarian reserve (AMH) levels compared to those with Vitamin D3 deficiency. • The study concluded that improving the levels of these vitamins may effectively contribute to enhancing fertility chances in women with secondary infertility. The thesis examination committee consisted of the following distinguished professors: • Prof. Emeritus Dr. Fares Naji Aboud – University of Babylon, College of Science (Chairman). • Prof. Dr. Samir Suwadi Hamoud – University of Babylon, College of Medicine (Member). • Prof. Dr. Qais Ismail Ajam – University of Babylon, College of Medicine (Member). • Prof. Dr. Naseer Jawad Al-Mukhtar – University of Babylon, College of Medicine (Supervisor and Member). • Assist.
