Psychological Counseling Unit at Babylon Medical College Holds Seminar Titled “Medicine and Humanity”
As part of the ongoing efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Professor Dr. Mohend Abbass Al-Shalah, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, in cooperation with the Library Division, organized an educational and cultural seminar entitled “Medicine and Humanity.”
The seminar witnessed distinguished attendance and was delivered by the following lecturers:
• Assistant Lecturer Maryam Amer Hefthi
• Assistant Lecturer Hawraa Nima Kamal
• Assistant Lecturer Zahraa Ayed Nahi
The seminar highlighted the authentic humanitarian aspect of the medical profession, emphasizing the importance of combining solid scientific knowledge with compassion and ethical values when dealing with patients. It stressed that the physician’s role is not limited to providing physical treatment alone, but also extends to offering psychological and human support to patients.
The seminar also focused on the importance of communication skills and the positive presence of physicians in alleviating patients’ suffering. In addition, it reviewed several forms of art that have increasingly become integrated into the therapeutic journey, such as painting and music, due to their significant role in creating a sense of calmness and improving patients’ psychological well-being.
The seminar aimed to encourage the establishment of a medical environment based on mutual respect and empathy, ensuring the delivery of the best humanitarian and healthcare services to society.
This activity aligns with the University’s vision in implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly:

• Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions
